Bandey is a multidisciplinary artist born and based in London, UK. She found her artistic voice whilst studying Fine Art (Ba) at DeMontfort University where she began creating immersive installations that evoke the senses. Her inaugural installation “The One Who Didn’t Visit Your Temple Was You” 2014, draws its title from a Sufi song ‘Mori Araj,’ performed by Ustad Nafees Ahmad. This work is theatrical in nature with traditional symbolism, and marks the beginning of her exploration of the inner dimensions of the self (Bāṭin).
Influenced by life, quantum physics, sacred geometry and spirituality, she carefully select mediums that resonate with her artistic voice, to produce a series of artworks that communicate with the observer her emotions, thoughts, and experiences. She believes that art should make the observer feel and often utilises raw and natural materials such as soil, sand, and plants to establish a connection between the body and nature, whilst symbolising the physical self, or the zahir.
Since graduating she has showcased her work in numerous group exhibitions. In 2018, she became a founding member of the Inside Job Collective; a group of Tate staff who launched the Tate Staff Biennale, celebrating the diverse talents of artists across all Tate sites. art continues to evolve as she journey’s deeper into self-exploration, infused with an element of the numinous.
